Stone Crushing Unit

What is Stone Crushing?

Stone crushing is a treatment method that allows kidney and urinary tract stones to be broken up by shock waves (ESWL – Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy) or minimally invasive surgical methods applied from outside the body and removed naturally. This method allows the stones to be broken and removed from the body without the need for open surgery, so that the healing process is faster and more comfortable.

Our Services

1. ESWL (Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy)

  • How does it work?
ESWL uses externally applied high-energy shock waves to break up kidney and urinary tract stones. These fragments are then excreted from the body through urine.
  • Advantages
    • It is painless and does not require anesthesia.
    • Provides a fast recovery time.
    • Does not require hospitalization.

2. Endoscopic Stone Crushing (URS – Ureterorenoscopy)

  • How does it work?
A thin device called a ureteroscope is used to enter the urinary tract and the stones can be seen directly. These stones are removed by breaking them with laser or mechanical methods.
  • Advantages
    • It is a minimally invasive method with small incisions.
    • It is effective in the treatment of larger stones.
    • It is usually performed under general anesthesia.

3. PNL (Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy)

  • How does it work?
Kidney stones are removed endoscopically through a small incision in the back. This method is used to treat large kidney stones.
  • Advantages
    • It is an effective treatment for large and complex stones.
    • It has a high success rate.
    • It is performed under general anesthesia.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the ESWL procedure take?
The ESWL procedure usually takes between 30-60 minutes. Patients are kept under observation for a short time after the procedure and discharged on the same day.

Will I feel pain during the stone crushing procedure?
ESWL is usually painless and does not require anesthesia. However, some patients may experience mild discomfort. Endoscopic and percutaneous methods are usually performed under anesthesia and no pain is felt.

What is the recovery process after stone crushing?
After ESWL, patients are usually discharged on the same day and can return to their daily activities in a short time. With endoscopic and percutaneous methods, the recovery time may be slightly longer, but patients can usually return to their normal lives within a few days.
